The Stairs

The boys love playing on the stairs lately. Mike keeps telling them it is a mode of transportation to get from one floor to the other, but they think it is a 'toy' and have lots of fun playing on them. We have been practicing with them going up and down, and they have been doing really well. So, the other day I left the gate open to see what they would do. They were great; they crawled up and down and didn't have any accidents. The next day when I left it open again, I didn't think we would have any problems. Caleb decided that instead of going down backwards like he should, he would go front facing like an adult. Anyway, as you can imagine that didn't work out so well and he fell down a few of the stairs, scraped his nose and gave himself quite a scare. We decided that they still need a little more practice before we can take the gate down.

My kids love stairs. All of them (so far) have learned to climb up and down them like the same week that they learned to crawl. That is enough to give me a heart attack! But I found that letting them play really helped in the learning. And each of them fell down all the way exactly once. That is scary too, but somehow it did the trick. If you can gate off most and let them practice on a few, that can be really helpful!
